Introduction and the first post

At present I am studying a masters in Rural Estate Management and am about to start the revision for an exam in valuation and knowing that my knowledge of valuation is not too good, I will add post some ideas to help me and those who come across this blog.

Valuation - (according to the dictionary on my laptop) is the "estimation of something's worth, esp. one carried out by a professional appraiser". The thesaurus goes on to give other similar words - these include "price, evaluation, assessment, appraisal, costing, quotation, estimate."

In this particular post and most of the following ones, the valuation that I will be discussing deals with the valuing of property. The definition of property, according to the Apple laptop's dictionary, being "a thing or things belonging to someone, possessions collectively; a building or buildings and the land belonging to it or them".

For those in the know and those not, there is a professional body that regulates the property professionals and surveyors. This is the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors also known as RICS. This first link is the main title page but this gives links to international sites including the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Near East and Africa regions, Asia, India, the Americas and Oceania.

According to a recent tweet on Twitter from comedian Peter Serafinowicz "Get paid BIG MONEY for surveys! http://www.rics.org/"

But with big money comes great responsibility - more of this to come in the next few weeks. So to round off this first post what do the letters C, R, I, P and C have to do with valuation. Solution next time.
